ABOUT US

Protecting the Central Queensland Environment since 1973

Capricorn Conservation Council (CCC) is the leading not-for-profit environmental advocacy organisation in Central Queensland. We are a community-based conservation group committed to preserving and enhancing the region’s natural beauty and biodiversity.

.

Our Mission

Located in Rockhampton, our reach extends from the Capricorn Coast, including the Great Barrier Reef, west to the Northern Territory border, north to the Mackay Regional Council southern boundary, and south to Gladstone. Our mission is to protect the ecological integrity and biodiversity of Central Queensland while promoting ecological sustainability.

.

Our Work

  • Environmental Advocacy: We engage with local, state, and federal governments to influence policies and ensure sustainable development practices are implemented across Central Queensland.
  • Community Engagement: We facilitate and encourage public involvement in environmental protection through workshops, educational programs, and collaborative projects with other conservation groups.
  • Indigenous Partnerships: Guided by Traditional Owners and Elders, we integrate Indigenous knowledge and leadership into our conservation strategies, ensuring culturally respectful advocacy and action.

.

Our Team

Governed by a management committee of nine dedicated volunteers, CCC employs a part-time Coordinator. We hold registered charity status, and donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible, supporting our ongoing conservation efforts.

.

Challenges We Face

The Central Queensland environment faces significant challenges from mining, land clearing, agriculture, and industrial development. These cumulative impacts create a critical need for our advocacy and conservation work to protect and sustain the region’s natural resources.

.

Our Vision

  • Protect Biodiversity: We are dedicated to safeguarding the biodiversity and ecological resilience of Central Queensland’s diverse ecosystems.
  • Promote Sustainability: Our initiatives focus on promoting ecologically sustainable development and reducing carbon emissions to combat climate change.
  • Empower Communities: We aim to empower communities by providing science-based knowledge and platforms for environmental action.
